Early Saturday morning, he had a lot of things to do. He bought a suit he used Sunday night for the flight of the Nationals’ back to D.C. He added that he would just play the game he has been playing every day. And sitting in the dug-out got him thinking that he really is in the big leagues. He admitted that it did not sink in yet.

What is his opinion about losing in the game? They played a great game. They fought hard until the end and it would have been better if they won the game.

Harper’s first day was quite eventful and perfectly normal. He is just 19 and there is still a long way to go.

Track president Patrick Warren said that the renovation will enhance Kansas fans experience at the speedway. The massive renovation includes repaving of the existing track surface, reconfiguration of the oval, and the addition of a new infield road course. Kansas Speedway’s new road course will also feature a layout that winds through the infield. Portions of the infield will be graded and paved as part of the road course development.

International Speedway Corporation (ISC) Design and Development, International Speedway Corporation’s in-house design and construction group, will supervise the repave and road course projects. In addition to the turns, the front stretch, backstretch and pit road will all be reconstructed.

Many drivers felt that the surface at Kansas Speedway was reaching its limits. ISC director of engineering Martin Flugger said that the asphalt surface does not look bad. But the problem is on the bond between the layers and the cracking itself.

With the lower layer compromised, there is the real possibility that the top surface would pull off. A hole actually opened up in the middle of Turn 1 and 2 because of the problem not with the asphalt but with the layer underneath it.

Aside from repaving, progressive banking is added. Progressive banking is when the degree of banking in the corners increases from the bottom to the top. This would create multiple lanes for racing. For Kansas Speedway, they are trying to build multiple lines coming through the corners on the front end.

The constructions crews will have to remove the existing oval track asphalt pavement and re-grade the underlying soil to make the variable banking. The banking would be brought up a little and there would be little banking to each lane incrementally. The bottom will be a little flatter and there would be a little banking going to the top. This will make the current 15 degree uniform banking go up to 20 degrees of variable banking in the turns.

The shape and size of Kansas is staying the same except for the banking with 17-20 degrees in the corners. This would be the steepest possible within the track’s configuration. The track would be banked in sections as opposed to banking in a linear fashion. The bottom 13 feet of the track would then be at 17 degrees while the top 19 feet would be at 20 degrees.

ISC utilizes state-of-the-art computer modeling to develop track geometry to decide the maximum banking allowable within the limitations of the facility. Computer simulations were run in order to come up with the ideal gradient and banking increase to insure the competitiveness of the track as soon as it opens. The total number of lanes will be revealed on October. Just watch out for the NASCAR 2012 games and let’s see how the new speedway is better.

Minor Transactions for Bulger and Scales

According to Adam Rubin of ESPN, he twitted that Bobby Scales and the Mets set their hands for a minor league deal and later will show up to Triple – A Buffalo. During the 2009 – 2010 seasons, of all his minor leagues, he made 158 plate appearances with the Chicago Cubs.

Another minor league contract was signed between Jason Bulger and the Yankees according to the tweets of Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. He’ll show up at Triple A as well. During his stay with the Twins in winter, the latter was dismayed by his Spring Training in which he just earned 10 runs on eight hits, five walks and four innings. His last big achievement was when he was with the Angels in 2009.

Trentonian’s Josh Norris reported that Steve Pearce and the Yankees both signed a minor league deal. Pearce was first seen with the Pirates and later on signed a deal with the Minnesota Twins on December of 2011 however he was released on the 27th of March.
